Roll Out for Commercial Energy Performance Certificates
Now that the phasing in of energy performance certificates for residential properties, the government has turned its attention to commercial properties.

Starting from 6th April 2008, an ‘EPC’ will be required for selected commercial buildings.  The roll out will take place as follows: -

6th April 2008
• EPC’s will be required for all commercial buildings with a floor area over 10,000m² when construction, sold or rented

1st July 2008
• EPC’s will be required for all commercial buildings with a floor area over 2,500m² when constructed, sold or rented

1st October 2008
• EPC’s required on the construction, sale or renting of any commercial properties
• Energy Certificates must be displayed in all public buildings over 1,000m²

Certain types of building are exempted from the above requirements, namely places of worship, temporary buildings with a planned time use of 2 years or less, specific buildings with low energy demand, and stand-alone non-residential buildings of less than 50m².
